Nikki Abissi is a highly accomplished trombonist whose dynamic artistry and dedication to excellence have earned her recognition as a prominent figure in the world of brass performance. With a deep passion for her craft, Nikki combines technical virtuosity with expressive musicality, captivating audiences around the globe.
A graduate of The Juilliard School and Stony Brook University, Nikki holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Trombone Performance. During her time there, she studied under some of the most celebrated trombonists in the industry, honing her skills and cultivating her unique musical voice. Nikki has also participated in prestigious festivals and workshops, including the Aspen Music Festival and The New World Symphony, further enriching her musical journey.
Nikki’s performance career is distinguished by its versatility. Equally at home on the concert stage and in intimate recital settings, she has performed with renowned ensembles and orchestras, showcasing her ability to blend seamlessly in collaborative settings while also shining as a soloist. Her repertoire spans a wide array of genres, from classical to contemporary works, as she consistently seeks to challenge herself and expand the boundaries of trombone performance.
Nikki is also an inventor and entrepreneur. She has created a fully patented device for the trombone called Extendabone. Extendabone is a trombone slide extension handle that allows anyone to reach the farthest positions of the trombone slide with ease.
As a short trombonist herself, Nikki knows this is a tool that needs to be available for herself and trombonists around the world, so she made it available for everyone.
When Nikki is not performing, she likes to play video games with her husband, two sons, two cats and a dog.
An ardent advocate for music education, Nikki is passionate about inspiring the next generation of musicians. She has conducted masterclasses and workshops across the country, sharing her expertise and encouraging young brass players to discover their potential. Her teaching approach is rooted in her own experiences, offering students both technical guidance and practical strategies for managing the demands of a career in music.
Beyond the stage, Nikki is a dedicated advocate for mental health awareness, using her platform to address the unique challenges faced by performers. Having personally navigated the intersection of ADHD, anxiety, and depression, she brings a compassionate perspective to her advocacy, encouraging musicians to prioritize their well-being alongside their artistic pursuits.
